The Beginning of Rock the Job

Rock the Job

Today's students are heavy social media users. Facebook, Twitter, and many others are part of their day to day. Employers know this, and are increasingly seeking out information on job candidates on social media sites. We've seen too many lost job opportunities, and jobs, due to posting stuff that would be great for their friends, but won't help in getting or keeping a job. Rock the Job is on a mission to inform students on how to leverage social media to become more employable. Employer interviews, case studies of do's and dont's, and much more will help students understand that the Internet never forgets, and employers rarely forgive.

Orlando Community Entreprenur Nick Pettit writes, “When employers are reviewing potential candidates, often they’ll Google the candidate’s name. This can sometimes have a negative impact on a candidate’s chances of getting hired. However, it’s actually an excellent opportunity to convey more about yourself than what can be shown on a resumé. Rock the Job will feature exciting guests, offer detailed advice on personal branding, run through tips and tricks for various social media tools, and more.”

We are looking forward to doing follow up interviews with both Nick Petit and Robert Dempsey who have started Rock the Job.   We want to follow the progress of this inititive, and support the project. If you are interested or know someone who might benefit from Rock the Job, be sure to pass along!

I just realized that my last comment was anonymous. I'll show some ignorance and say that I'm not sure how to log in here! The mysterious stranger was just me, Nick Pettit (@nickrp) :P

Thanks for the love!!! I can't let this go without a mention of Jim Hoskins (@jimrhoskins). He's been a tremendous help in making sure the web aspects go smoothly, and also in making sure that Rob and I don't look like goofs on camera. :D

Thanks for the write-up Elizabeth. Nick and I are very excited about this initiative and the opportunity to help students and others understand the impact of what they do online, specifically social media.
