Relevance Meets the Real-Time Web

The major search engines are always adjusting their algorithms for tracking the consistency and relevancy of new content publication, video publishing, mobile device access, and social media participation.

Recently, Google launched an aggressive thrust to maintain its blanket leadership in the search engine arena. Indeed, they have jumped ahead of the pack.  Announced early in December, Google Fellow Amit Singhal says, “Google Real Time search is Google’s relevance technology meeting the real-time web.  There is so much information being generated that relevance is the key to any product, and that’s where Google comes in.”  Google’s results page will now include a scrolling box of links that update constantly even as you scan through the other results. The feature is now available on iPhones and Android,”

Google is acclaiming that it is the first company to partner with MySpace for real-time search.  Google is also including Facebooks and Twitter in its stream. “Our search results have to mirror the [internet's] richness,” Mayer said. “It’s not just about 10 blue links. It’s about the best answers. We don’t know what search will look like 30 years from now, but what we do know is that they will be more personalized.”  Google's Real-time Search Surfaces Tweets, Blogs and Soon Facebook ...  As we've written before, search is still an unsolved problem and we're committed to making it faster and easier for people to access a greater diversity of information, delivered in real-time, from across the web. I'm tremendously excited about these significant new real-time search features

According to Google “we're introducing new features that bring your search results to life with a dynamic stream of real-time content from across the web. Now, immediately after conducting a search, you can see live updates from people on popular sites like Twitter and FriendFeed, as well as headlines from news and blog posts published just seconds before. When they are relevant, we'll rank these latest results to show the freshest information right on the search results page.”

Just an added note, with an eyeball on the door of relevancy of real-time,  Courtney Mills writes, “With Google rolling out real-time search results there is now even greater opportunity to get more exposure for your business. “ She wrote an interesting blog on how you can get found in real-time searches.  To get you on track, she has some tips that will prove to be helpful. Take a look!

Try searching for your favorite TV show, sporting event or the latest development on a recent government bill. Let us know whether or not it’s relevant and/or beneficial to you.  Remember, whether it's an eyewitness tweet, a breaking news story or a fresh blog post, you can find it on Google right after it's published on the web.
